“Hello Harold, Louise,
Thanks again for this ASA 106 class in the Keys. Beside the fantastic weather we were lucky to have, the class was terrific and we truly learned more in that class than in any other previous practice classes.
Great accomplishment and great milestone in our sailing education
Departures from Miami, Georgetown Bahamas, Nassau .
The 1st leg is planned to leave Miami after the Christmas holidays (weather dependent) for a trip across the Gulf Stream, through the Bahamas to Georgetown in the Exumas. There will be a night passage crossing the stream, after that your sailing in the Bahamas will be almost all day sails, again mostly over the shallow waters of the Bahama Banks. You will have time to stop to explore some of the Out Islands along the way.
Update: We’ll be posting spring dates soon. Stay tuned for details.
We are planning for some lay days waiting for weather and exploring ashore. It will be a real cruising experience with flexibility built in so that you have a pleasant outside passage along with lots of sailing, weather and route planning, along with some time to meet fellow cruisers. There will also be time to work on ASA certifications, Books and certifications are included in the price. We will send you the books in advance, depending on how much you are able to study before you get here it will be no problem to get 104 Bareboat Cruising. It may also be possible to get 105 Coastal Navigation and 106 Advanced coastal cruising, you would need to prep well to also accomplish those two courses.
We will supply all the food but you should plan on some meals ashore at your own expense and also pitching in with galley duties. You are welcome to bring alcoholic beverages along for the evenings at anchor, they are not included in the price of your trip. Transportation to and from the boat is not included.
